Hello #smartcommunityfriends, it’s our podcast birthday! The Smart Community Podcast has turned 3 years old! So to celebrate we’re doing a week of bonus episodes, bringing together multiple guest answers over multiple days to the question, ‘Where to next with Smart Cities and Communities?” And this time I’m sharing with you the answers from a range of our guests this past year:
- Nathaniel Bavinton from Episode 183
- Allan Murphy from Episode 168
- Chris Rowlands from Episode 156
- Eleanor Carey from Episode 159
- Calum Cameron from Episode 185
Listen here:
The themes that come through in all of the guest answers are around integrating and collaborating and breaking down silos, either across disciplines or industries, or within teams in an organisation, or between community and government and private sector. The wicked problems facing us cannot be solved without innovation and diverse perspectives and an experimental mindset. It isn’t easy and it will require new approaches from all of us but these guests share some examples of how and where this is already happening.
Several guests also make important points about scaling up of pilots and Smart initiatives to make the changes and solving of real problems available for more people, and that also requires integration and diversity of thought too.
As Nathaniel Bavinton says, the simple problems have been solved and what we have left is the big, complex and wicked and they need interdisciplinary thinking by design.
We’ll be back in your pod catchers tomorrow with another bonus episode. As always, we hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed making it.
